How To Make the Perfect Charcuterie Board with Nutty Delights

How To Make the Perfect Charcuterie Board with Nutty Delights
There is no appetizer more impressive than a charcuterie board. Loaded with dried meats, nuts, fruits, spreads, and crackers - there is something on this elaborate board for everyone.
What is a Charcuterie Board?
Charcuterie is the culinary art of preparing meat products like chorizo, salami, and ham, etc. A charcuterie board is basically meats answer to a cheeseboard, but man are they good! Charcuterie boards are a great centerpiece for when you have guests around and an easy appetizer to throw up when you’re in a hurry.
If you’ve never dipped your toes into the charcuterie boards water, don’t worry, we’re here to help you impress your guests or just yourself with a really delicious and grand dish to dig into.
What You Will Need
First things first, you need an object to serve the charcuterie board on. Preferably something flat. You can use some old plates you might have been gifted years ago and never seen the light of day or an old wooden chopping board. Anything flat will work here, you don’t need a special plate. You may also need some small sauce bowls or ramekins.
Meats and Cheeses
When you have the plating all sorted, the next port of call would be the meats and cheeses. We would recommend some local, Irish cheeses like smoked cheddar cheese, Tipperary brie, and blue stilton. These can be sliced, cubed, or left as they come so that your guests can cut their own.
Basically, any cured meat will go fantastic on a charcuterie board, Proscuitto, salami, pepperoni, ham, etc. You can get these from any local deli or farmers’ market.
Nuts and Dried Fruits: Our Favorites
Next up would be any dried fruits and nuts. We might be a bit biased, but we think the addition of dried fruits and nuts to any platter really uplifts the flavors, textures, and appearance of a food platter. The use of dried fruits and nuts can fill up any empty spaces and gaps on the platter.
We recommend stuffing the gaps with some salted almonds, pecans, or something a bit spicer like our chili cashews and chili & lime cashews. Any of our Nutty Delights gourmet nuts would be a fantastic filler.
Dried fruit is probably the easiest to acquire because of its longevity and accessibility. If we were making the charcuterie board, we would go with bigger dried fruits like apricots for their delicate sweet flavor, dates, dried pears, and dried figs.
All the above mentioned dried fruits bring an added texture and deeper flavor profile to the board. They also will make the platter pop with their gorgeous colors.
We would also advise adding in some seeds for some added crunch to your food board. Lightly sprinkle some sunflower seeds or chia seeds around the board to garnish or to snack on!
Bread and Crackers
Once you have acquired your meats, cheeses, nuts, and dried fruits from Nutty Delights, you then can move on to bread and crackers.
This one is pretty simple. Any cracker and bread that you like and looks good will be a great staple to the board. Pick them up from any local convenience store and you’ll be flying!
Once you blend all those flavors together, dress them up on whatever flat surface you can find will have yourself a charcuterie board.
A Charcuterie Tip:
Here’s a simple tip to always keep in mind:
When curating a charcuterie board, it’s important to remember the 4 S’s.
- Sweet
- Savory
- Salty
- Spicy
If you want to ditch the board, meats, cheeses, bread, and crackers and we have all those S’s on our virtual store at Nutty Delights.
